Node Carlos Perez' fanatical zeal in exposing the weaknesses in Dotnet is matched only by the obtuse nature of his website. I/We are extremely intrigued by his notion about the imminent demise of .NET. The rumor that Wrox was sank by an overabundance of unsold .NET books is also funny, albeit in a tragic way.

I/We will not debate the merits of his arguments, but will point out that Microsoft fulfills a very useful purpose in the long-term growth of Java. It is the Yin to our Yang, the black to our light. It pushes Sun and the other Java backers to explore new and fruitful avenues for our platform, and makes sure Java never rests on its laurels.

We need opposing forces like Microsoft and .NET - or whatever will pass for .NET in years to come once this current reincarnation passes - to balance us and keep us focused and steady.
