Feed Description: A Weblog about Java programming and digital convergence on mobile devices in such areas as P2P and collaborative technology.
This article from CNET is somewhat entertaining on some levels. But, like all CNET articles gets some specific points and facts somewhat wrong in its article.
It would have been a far better article if Patel and Seetharam and Halverson were allowed to write the article than only put CNET in the editor role.
It also very surprising that CNET did not catch the obvioulsy conclusion that other compoenents of the mobile ecosystem represented by the handset also need to be hackable and open. I refer to the Applicaiton Virtual Machine, in our case the J2ME(Java ME) JVM.
Hopefully, the recent SUN Microsystems pledge to reduce the number of OSI licenses it recognizes and uses in its products might eventually make it down to how the J2ME JVM or JVM technology is lciensed to other 3rd parties. Maybe a separate somewhat better research license tha tis somewhat open to the hackable possiblities?
