One of the nice things about conferences is that you hear a lot
of interesting things. I've collected a few things I've heard over the
last couple of days.
Programmers. Those are the guys who put the bugs in the
software, right? Actually, my official title is bug engineer.
J2EE is the legacy cobol of tomorrow. Now I know I can keep
doing EJBs well into retirement if I want. Woohoo.
Certification leads to outsourcing. The surest way to devalue
yourself as a programmer is to encourage certifications which
devalue talented programmers in favor of programmers who are
good at taking certification exams. I'm not a huge fan of certifications,
but it was interesting to see that my stance was rather mild compared
to the speakers of the panel who responded when the question came up.
Metadata in Java is the object model exposed by reflection. I've
been struggling with the term metadata, from XDodclet to JSR 175 annotations.
Not all metadata (even in JSR 175) is exposed by reflection, but I think
it's a good perspective.
Kill the managers. I don't remember the context or the
speaker, but who can argue with that? (except maybe the managers)
