You may wonder why I choose to install Debian GNU/Linux on VMWare Player instead of some other distro. Well, Debian GNU/Linux happen to be the first Linux distro tha tI was exposed to Linux in 1994 at Purdue University.
Back than of course it was somewhat smaller in size. We did not mind the lakc of GUI installer because at tha time if you were epxosed to the computer labs at Prudue you were already using plain gui-;ess text/ascii shells to access email, yoru file storage space, and etc.
Specifically, I remember gettign exposed to VAX/VMS and Unix beofre touching Debian GNU/Linux. Most universities were swithcing out VAX/VMS because the regualr user could not set proper file/execute permissions for web files and switching to some type of Unix.
Thus, it was not a huge leap to jump to Debian GNU/Linux as the same process of using the shell and reaidng manual pages still applied. Thus, that is why Debian GNU/Linux is my first choice because of the good memories and etc. At times I also experienced the shifting work hours of going without sleep for 24 to 48 hours and being in the engineering 24-hour computing labs.
