I been having problems gettinghe install to play right, ie the reboot goofs up as far as a functional system. The trick is to choose instead of finish to choose execute shell. than type exit and thna choose finish install again. It will give you bash upon re-boot.

Upon reboot do /sbin/shutdown -h now and than edit the vmx file to delete the iso file and set cd-rom back to device mode. Boot into bash and do apt-get install netselect and netselct-apt and than set the apt sources.list by doing the netselect-apt -s -n testing command.

Than you should be able after an apt-get update to install xorg, gdm, and gnome-desktop-environment( yes together with gdm at same time).
