Do you need to Deb package Eclipse 3.2 to use it in Etch? Not really. The added stuff you need is to install svn-javah1.jar library. You also need to set .bash_profile in your home directory to have these lines:

#.bash_profile

#eclipse stuff

export CLASSPATH=/usr/share/java/svn-javahl.jar
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib


Than log out of your user account and log back in and you will be able to launch correctly from the desktop icon of Eclipse.
