You might be wondering what it takes to survive and succeed in Mobile Application Development. With the recent failing of such high hyped start-ups as Flipt(Radiate) which had average VC capital and support it seems to be not dependent upon an East Or West coast location and having VC money as the main ingredient for success.

It is unlike desktop application development in that the mobile network infrastructure does in fact influence what start-ups win and fail. A simple example might be if you were a bakery attempting to get your loafs of bread sold at a grocery chain.

If you understand the grocery infrastructure than you understand that you not only have to pay the shelf space advertising fee to get shelf space but also have to integrate with the grocery chains inventory system to make it an easy decision to offer your product on their shelves.

In the Mobile Application Development World the advertising shelf space fee is the testing fees paid to ensure the application operates on the device correctly. Whereas the integration with the Mobile Operator is the SOA portion through such SOA apis as Parlay.

I have seen several start-up firms ignore my advice and much like Flipt burn up money in business trips trying to win partner deals with providers without doing the development work to reach the objectives. If you have the wrong implementation no amount of high pressured selling will get the deal signed with any Mobile Operator.

The Mobile Device only has value when connected to that powerful magical Mobile Operator Network. Disconnect a Desktop computer from internet and tis still 75% valuable depending upon which application is running on that desktop.
