I used to be in the camp that said we should all consolidate our efforts and never reinvent the wheel. Last year I came to an epiphany and realized when it's OK to reinvent the wheel. So of course, when I put that to action I got the obligatory "why create a new framework when X works so nicely" comment. Of course, X is always the pet framework that the person likes. It's a valid question when there is a glut of Java web frameworks out there. Each one has their strengths and weaknesses, and it's a lot to take in when you just need to get started doing something .
