Effective Java by Joshua Bloch is my favorite Java book. Effective Java is not an introduction to the language or a tutorial, but instead it breaks down into 10 chapters and 57 items of how you can write sound and safe Java code. For example it recommends favoring immutability, returning zero length arrays instead of nulls, etc. I found the table of contents to be a nice little cheat sheet.
