The title reads, . Now let us debunk that error prone title.
AT and T's 1gG services was AMPS which is being shut down. TDMA was their 2G service which is alos being shut down in favor of full EDGE. Full EDGE without AMPS and TDMA is not 2.5G but in fact 3G to support 3G standards.
What may confuse the writer for CNET is that iPhone in the states is labeled as 2.5G but in Europe labeled as 3G. Let us debunk the issue. Remember Apple probably still is not a member of the 3G group and thus cannot really state the 2.6G and 3G directly thus the confusion. Those OEMs who are 3G group members are producing similar mobile devices for AT and T such as Nokia and SonyEriosson are labeleed and rated as 3G.
BTW, 2.5G is a marketing term invented by USA mobile operators and really has no distinct meaning.
