Interessting turnaround in my little Wiki evaluation project. I tried XWiki but was somehow dissapointed with the GUI and the stableness overall. Then i did what was not planned, i installed TWiki. I wrote that i really want a java based wiki but at the end i just wanted to try one more open source wiki.
To make a long story short. I am pretty flashed by Twiki. Ok the installation is not too simple. You have to do a lot of CPAN module installations and you are always tweaking the OS itself for using i18n or for installing RCS. But ok, the server is under my control and i can do whatever i want with it.
The usage itself is not a no-brainer. Its very confusing at first to use Wiki-style content to configure your wiki. But once you get used to it, its spectacular easy to work with. So for now TWiki is my choice and i dont think that i will switch to Confluence. But Confluence was nevertheless quite important because it sets the bar quite high and i dont think that there are many wiki that can compete with Confluence, but TWiki is definitely one. Right now i am moving all my Trac content to TWiki.
