You will every once in awhile see some clueless person attempt to state that Mythical man Month is somewhat out-dated or incorrect. In fact some consultant company recently had such an article in their blog. Lets see how many people who claim to have read Mythical Man Month actually comprehend it. Now, if you know the core gem of mathematical basis for the book theories, raise your hand.

What mathematical theory? its called information theory. There are many aspects of its applications but basically in this case as information increases in a communication channel the time it takes to analyze and use such information increases and if you increase members to that channel the communication between members to understand the communication increases. in 40 plus years of use of this theory no one has proven it false. Often times you see it over-simplified as in Bill Gates n-1 hiring scheme for developer teams.

But that is the difference between a consultant and a develeoper/engineer. One wants to understand how things work and use that knowledge and the other one, well we all know what they do..
