Part of the challenge of building a Loopt clone for Android is improving the feature set. Well what happens if 3g goes out for a little bit? You will stil want to pull up the GPS enabled map with some previous data.

Unlike other map solutions Google Maps does have a download map feature and Android happens to have this nice SQLite3 database that is accessible via applications. Right now Loopt does not have a feature where you could access some data if 3g is not accessible for a period of time.

I want to thank Xavier Mathews of Google on the Google Groups Android Developer List for pointing out the downloadable Google Maps feature.
