While no one has talked Steve Jobs into allowing 3rd party iPhone apps to run in background, I did find a way to keep the time line of gps and other data somewhat synched with the social clouds. Bascially, its the twittter publisher and subscriiber model whereas every device user is both and thus we use the Gnip service to integrate things together.
Its not the most elegant as we stil have the update gps positon problem when Xspot on iPhone is turned off due to another application running.
