Feed Description: A Weblog about Java programming and digital convergence on mobile devices in such areas as P2P and collaborative technology.
First, for those who prefer to use java a and similar languages the XMLVM project has a cross complier that compiles Android java to iPhone ObjectiveC. Thus, you do not have to go the web route like Idid as there are two routes to producing a code base that can be used for both android and iPhone. OKay,now on the rest.
I am sure you saw the new Google iPhone applications. You know the ones, that saem only use 12% of the iUI library css and do not push anything type design. This not to say that you should violate design rules that both OHA and Apple have laid down for their respective platforms. However, they are not up to the innovation expectations I would expect to see from Google melding device features with UI design of a Mobile iPhone or Android application.
There are better ways to use both iUI css and javascript to come up with a more effective UI implementation that integrates new device features with the UI. I can say that what I show tommorow evening is only the tip of the what was coming as it will proably the first item that a mobile web app has movement gestures among other new features that are UI specific in nature.
But even graphically there are detaisl missing that I would expect to see. For example, in my icon navigatio bar my on and off menu icons appear to move slightly like they are pushed. And that is a very old graphic trick that you would find in the old Kai Krause Phtotoshop tutorials from about 15 years ago or more. The hint is what happens to displacement when you invert shadows from the eye's perspective. If you do it right with icons that have outlines you get a pushed button effect for the on and off icons.
But it goes deeper than that in that dragggable items which enable a flick to scroll type effect and etc. My hope in one-uping Google is that the innovation in mobile applications gets revitalized and we see more of it and that it grows.
