At some point the Xspot mobile application and MobileBytes has to develop revenue. Part of the terms to using Google Maps states that users have to have free access and thu sthe service lends itself towards an ad based model. But at the saem time I do nto want push style advertising.
What if the advertiser or sponsor was a imaginary FriendFeed entitiy? Obvoiusly the channles could be of ad pulling antures of discusssing the brand among service channels ushc as Brightkite where the ads might be geocoded.
How does it become pull? It becomes pull because of the user settings of what interests they want pulled into their xspot application, its their applicaition by the way if they have downloaded and use it as we the company are just caretakers of the application,. Thus, advertisers would have to increase their social presence to get that entry conversion of having the user express in their settings an interest to have this particular interest pulled.
And because its geocoded triggered, the pull, the user wil not see it all the time just when it might make sense geocode location wise or social media wise in one of the channels xspot interfaces with.
If this sounds familiar its how short code advertising worked in that thee was this entry point where an ad was used to pull the consumer's interest to signing up for that short code promotion in their sms/cell phone email and thus get their interest in the advertised promotion pulled into their cell phone.
Of course I could be wrong in tha tthe user may prefer just text ads at the top of the application being pushed to them on an ongoing basis. But, for the advertising stnad point yu have to think about where the demographical data targetign the ad might be accessible at. Because Xspot integrates with Google, FriendFeed, Brightkite and etc the advertiser might not have access to demographics of those services to target Xspot users and thus the pull set-up seems to fit better in this case.
