Although my xspot application is deployed to both iPhone and Android, I did choose Android first and thus my reasons for choosing Android:

1. Low cost of entry. For Android due to the reliable emulator an SDK the cost of entry is the developer application fee and the costs of obtaining a digital certification to sign the application  iPhone adds that must have mac at $2700 into the mix of entry costs.

2. More freedom in what application I can create as apple prohibits any application that competes with them or they do not like.

3. Reduction of the influence of Mobile Operators to issues of Q and A rather than one of blocking innovation and for this the Mobile Operators get a 4 fold increase in data usage and revenue thus the Mobile  Operator is protected from the bad effects of commodization.

4. The strong open source presence as this serves to add value to the Android principles by giving a structure to help enforce the vision in an innovative way without harming anyone's right to innovate.

5. For those that ran screaming from either j2me or Symbian, its damn fun. Google and OHA really did take the mobile java compaints to heart to come up with something more innovattive and easier to deploy on forthe developer and the consumer benefits from this effort.

6. No use of micro kernnnel in the mobile platform unlike some other miss informed firms such as apple and Nokia. This improves preformcne to the point where real on the web all the time access is a pleasure rather than a crash which is very important to those developing Hybrid Mobile RIAs such as myself.
