Oracle's JRockit JVM has had it's license changed to make it free to use for development and internal production. The reason for the change is start treating the Hotspot and JRockit JVMs in the same way. Part of Oracle's plan for the future of the Java platform is to converge the two JVMs by merging the best features of each into one JVM.
The advice is not to think about switching a Java project from Hotspot to JRockit unless it really makes sense because it would just have to change again at a later date when the new converged JVM is released. It's about enabling more Java developers the option of using JRockit so that there can be more feedback around the comparison of JRockit and the converged JVM.
