The proposed JSRs will modify the JCP's processes and "constitution" - the Process Document and Java Specification Participation Agreement (JSPA) and will apply to all new JSRs and to future maintenance releases of existing JSRs for all Java platforms.
JSR 348: Towards a new version of the Java Community Process (dubbed JCP.next JSR 1) proposes changes to the JCP process document to:
increase transparency of the process. For example, by making sure all Expert Group business is carried out on a public mailing list.
enable better participation for JCP members with the activities of Executive Committees and the Expert Groups.
speed up the time it takes JSRs to move through the JCP.
exploring ways to merge the two Executive Committees into one.
The second JSR (JCP.next JSR 2) will look at modifying the Java Specification Participation Agreement and will be submitted to the JCP in the near future.
