This morning I was reminded of a corollary to The Circle of Life: if you've thought up a feature or concept for a product, someone has probably already thunk it and had their idea shot down or eliminated.

For example, one of the features we're currently discussing for the next version of The Product is adding a time stamp to certain values (like CPU load time, memory available, and other performance metrics) displayed in the UI. The time stamp would just say when that piece of data happened or was discovered.

I asked around to see if we had that data available, and, of course we do. The person I asked also added, "and, actually, I suggested that two years ago." Hey Presto! The 1st Corollary to the Circle of Life.
