There's a good article by Julien Ponge about using the new fork/join framework in Java SE 7. It's worth a read if you're interested in multithreaded applications.

He looks at the evolution of concurrent programming in Java through Java SE 5 and Java SE 6 before giving an example of fork/join tasks introduced in Java SE 7 to help support parallelism.
