I was reading TeXML: an XML vocabulary for TeX and I had a flashback to Cameron's blogs from last month: Byte Code as XML Byte code as XML got too big XML Processing got too expensive I don't know about you, but I think: <cmd name="documentclass"> <opt>12pt</opt> <parm>letter</parm> </cmd> looks a lot more verbose than the "raw" TeX: \documentclass[12pt]{letter} Maybe it is just me.
