I like Tony Hoare's idea of a "grand challenges" for computer science to more closely approximate thought and model life.An article in The Register compared the endeavor to the challenge of lunar exploration, but I'd rather think of it in terms of Hilbert's 23 problems that motivated mathematics and defined rigor at the dawn of the 20th century.
