I need a good country picker for my packing list, so I started searching the net. First I bumped into SensoMap from a company in the UK. They've offered to customize it slightly for my needs, for a very reasonable price, but I'm a bit weary of spending money right now, since I lost my job 2 weeks ago, so I continued looking.

Next thing that cought my eye was BlogoSphere. Very cool, but not what I was looking for.

Then I found ALOV Map. It seems to be related to TimeMap, but it is a bit unclear. Neither is open source, but seemingly very powerful.

Finally I found GeoTools. Open Source, very active (94.4933% at SourceForge) with 3 project admins and 35 developers. Among the various examples I found Quick Geography Selection Demo which does exactly what I wanted. The source example is clear and rediculously simple. I just need to replace the example map with a world map, and do some minor changes.
