If you have the same (weird) interest in retail and supply-chain stuff that I do, you'll probably like these two articles from this month's Baseline:
Dollar General: 8 Days To Grow - how Dollar General opens a new store (after construction) in 8 days. There's plenty of numbers, company background, and tech-anecdotes in the article as well.
Kim's told me that when she was younger, no one would admit to shopping for anything at Target, except for socks.
My mother and I went there all the time to buy this and that. I remember it being much more fuddy-duddy than it is now: but they did always have those nifty watch calculators and other cheap watches. I probably spent too much money on their toys and slush puppies too.
Anyhow, maybe I'll get around to reading that Target book one day.
