I got myself a copy of Norton AntiVirus 9 for my PowerBook a couple of weeks ago and after playing with some Java stuff I noticed that the performance had gone quite dramatically downhill. For example, JBoss took almost twice as long to start up!

The solution? Well, if you have "auto protect" on, be sure to disable the "scan compressed files" feature. *sigh* ... that's much better now. :-)
