Went to a SouJava meeting today. SouJava, as you probably haven't heard of it, is one of the largest JUGs in the world, with more than a thousand members, located in Sao Paulo. We meet something like one day each month, but the schedule is really unpredictable, as with every well-organized group of geeks. Today's talk was about JavaOne stuff. Bruno (the...uhh... "javaman", the guy who wore a brazilian flag as a cape in J1) talked a little about the new trends in Java development, added some bits and pieces here and there, followed by Fabio Velloso (main JUG organizer and supporter), who talked mostly about some numbers given at the keynotes.

Then, after the usual coffee-break (much better this time, kudos folks!) and some shirts thrown at the crowd (you should see brazilians grabbing t-shirts thrown at talks - looks like they're a bunch of lower-order primates fighting for survival, screaming and climbing over each others, but it's fun nonetheless), Jorge Kazuo (hi there! :) stepped in to show some of the pictures he took while in SF. Feels like I'm not the only one with a digital camera that only takes blurry uncomprehensible images, thank god!

This was the first JavaOne for Kazuo, as well, and he was very excited about it. He's a very nice guy - someone I'm definitely proud to call a friend -, and he gave me quite a reception while we were in San Francisco. I don't have the slighest idea how he found me, but as soon as I checked in at the hotel, he came by to say hello, and offered to show me some places in the city. I liked to hang around with him during the sessions, seemed like he had all the conference agenda in his head. I could ask him about some random talk, and he'd point me to the right room, right time, who was speaking, and what would I learn there... Hope I haven't annoyed him to death with my boring preach about AOP and opensource projects... :)

Oh, he talked about this very blog! Hah, now I'm an (in)famous blog king in Brazil. Some folks asked me the URL, so if you're reading this, guys, yeah, you've found it. I don't know if you should be happy about it, though. Time will tell, time will tell :)

Aw yeah, and I was invited ("forced" would be a better word, but whatever) to give some of the JavaOne talks I've watched and enjoyed (hmm, none, really) at the next upcoming Java event, the Abaporu. Basically, Abaporu is a small re-run of JavaOne for those who didn't had the 2 thousand bucks to spend, didn't get any speeches, or had better things to do in general. It's going to happen at end of September (20 and 21th, I'm not sure yet), so if you're around, don't miss my misinterpretations of some of the weirdest JavaOne talks.
