Many in recent weeks and months have focused on Sun's slow movement on the J2ME RI for ARM processors as its lack of interest in PDAs. However, that might not be the case.

JSR209 is designed to move components from swing, 2d, image io, and input method framework to the J2ME based Profiles of Personal Basis Profile and Personal Profile. However, not everything is simple as most members voted with a reservatiosn about swing's usefullness in this PDA area of J2ME.

To be blunt honest I am more apt to agree with the both no votes from IBM and PalmOS in that if there is enough resources to run J2SE then that should be done instead of this API on top of J2ME. Given the amount of concerns about size and suitability of swing within J2ME both in yes and no votes, I fully expect to see ayear later where the swing requirements are dropped.
