Senator Kerry and President Bush were asked 12 tech-policy-related questions by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), to describe the role each thinks the federal government should play on such issues as: tech workforce/training, Internet telephony, cyber security, etc.
I.e. What government training, education and certification policies can help make American technology workers more competitive in the global economy?
Bush: " I have pursued unparalleled education reform and skills development initiatives to ensure our technology workforce remains the most competitive in the world. My No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 requires all states to develop accountability plans that ensure all students become proficient in reading and math. The law also establishes the goal of ensuring all students are technologically literate by the eighth grade. .. "
Kerry: " Our current efforts to educate and prepare American workers to thrive in an increasingly technological society are totally inadequate. .. I will work to build the workforce of the future by investing in K-12 math and science education, rewarding colleges for increasing the number of science and engineering degrees, .. "
