As I stated before about a week ago Sun needed to move fast to take
advantage of the displeasure of groups that were facing a move from Alpha
hardware to Intel 64 bit systems. Well the under dog fighter has shown up
in the form of
IBM this week in stating that they will be offering a Linux-PowerPPC combo
based on PPC970 64 bit chip priced at $3500 for 4 way cpu configuration.
If you are curious of what Linux distros you can run on this system check out
PenguinPPC.org. Everything from Debian, Mandrake, Gentoo, YellowDog, and
etc.
