Darren Cotteril presented Selenium tonight at the Sydney Geeknight. Selenium is an functional and acceptance testing tool for web apps. What's cool about it is that it understands the dreaded Javascript. It actually drives your local browser via a very clever set of Javascript functions. Test cases are written in html tables! There are downsides as well as upsides (like test cases in html tables). It's pretty raw at the moment, only young, but I think in a short while it will show some definite promise. Afterwards there was a long discussion about acceptance testing strategies in different sorts of environments, client site development, product development, etc. Anyway another excellent Geeknight even though the turnout wasn't as large at it has been in the past. Next week is Java Server Faces and the week after that we have Kirk Pepperdine from javaperformancetuning.com coming along.
