That article touches my heart in so many ways.

First framework that really daunted me with its' scale and complexity was Jakarta Turbine. Maybe it's different now, but hey, I've never touched it since I've found WebWork. *grin*

Maven, vs Ant. (See any characters that are developing both Turbine and Maven ?)

Avalon, vs PicoContainer.
