MoveableType is a great piece of software but the licensing change which occured a year ago was my first gripe with it. But lately i saw Blojsom and after a test installation, i found it quite usable. Ok the admin console looks like a piece of shit compared to MoveableType but there is a killer argument for Blojsom: Its written in Java! I mean, finally i can tweak this software myself and the plugin system seems thought out well too. The plugin system with MoveableType is a complete pain compared to Blojsom, besides the fact that its written in Perl, and i am really not keen on doing any Perl stuff.
But there were also some installation headaches. MoveableType generates everything as static HTML, whereas Blojsom (at least in its default installation) is totally dynamic. So the painful task of using the Apache-Tomcat Connector (mod_jk) was on the list and i heard many bad things about the installation. I grabbed latest binary of mod_jk for my linux box and modified the apache configuration. To make it short, it worked on the first try! Now i can redirect request to my homepage to Tomcat for dynamic content. Great
So most likely this blog entry will be the last entry on the old homepage (which will get a complete relaunch) with MoveableType. I hope everything is up in a few hours.
