A local newspaper is planning to switch to Plone and I am helping out with the project, which will be released as open source under the GPL when we have something useful.

We want to make good use of existing products, so, for example, we plan to use Composite Pack to visually create frontpage layouts and Schema Editor to easily add fields to existing content types. Other products we would like to integrate include Plone Article and ATPhoto.

The first stage of the project will be to develop tools to create an edition and add content to it, both manually and via bulk import of News Industry Text Format (NITF) files.

Planned features for the first release include:

• Editions
• Stories
• Sections
• Photos
• Photo galleries
• Polls
• Easy integration of external sources of content via portlets
• Visual layout for frontpage and special page
• NITF Import and export
• Flexible content type schemas editable through the web
• Simple API for content creation and edition from outside Plone
