The past four days we've been hard at work trying to produce an alpha version of our newspaper product for Plone (codenamed Julius).

We are still far off that mark, but we have some progress on a couple of stand-alone companion products. These products are currently at various levels of readiness (meaning none of them are releasable just yet), but with a little push we could find some time to make a release or two in the next few days.

One way to give this little push would be if there was at least some interest in one of these products, so here's the list. Please comment if you think one of these could be useful to you:

  • ExternalSources is a product that allows the user to insert information from other web pages or internet resources inside portlets or as complete Plone templates. Non developers can use one of the included sources just by adding a portlet URL with query parameters to the left or right portlet slots. Developers can extend a simple base class to easily create new sources. We needed this for internet resources, but really you can include anything that Python can handle.
  • TreeField and TreeWidget for Archetypes content types produce a javascript-driven tree widget which a user with the edit permission can dinamically modify. A normal user can open and close branches and click on the leaves to be sent to a new URL. Currently works in IE and Firefox.
  • NITF import allows the import of XML files using the News Industry Text Format into Plone as Documents
