Quick note: the owner of the Redfin Restaurant at the Hotel Max in Seattle seems like a nice guy. The hotel itself has wifi that costs $10/day, but he set up a free access point in the restaurant, which you can also get to from the lobby.

One morning I couldn't connect from the lobby, so I perched on the edge of a table in the restaurant, and he came up to me to not to tell me to go away because I wasn't buying anything, but rather to ask if I could get on the network OK :)
