I've updated my site. Changes include
  • The slides from my Introduction to Programming for Bioinformatics using Python class taught at the NBN, University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
  • My PyCon 2004 talk. It covered how Python as a high-level language fits in with the different chemistry and biology projects. I figured most people aren't in those fields so wouldn't want lots of details on the different projects. Instead, I covered more of the history of high level languages and why Python fits in pretty well in chemistry but why it isn't (yet) so popular in bioinformatics.
I tried a different lecture style this time, no slides, just talk since most of what I was talking about was history. Turns out that I use the overhead notes a lot for myself. I tried to follow my essay but kept rearranging things. Even if I don't have overhead bullet points for the lecture (some pictures would still help) I found out I need them for myself. AMK pointed out that I talked too much about history. I think for EuroPython I'll focus more on the actual libraries.
  • there's news about my current travel schedule. EuroPython in June and BOSC/ISMB in July. Hope to talk about Biopython in the first and EUtils (and maybe this little project with the NBN) at the second.
Oh, and I was nominated and accepted to the Python Software Foundation, to say nothing of my PSU memb
