I bought a new laptop a few weeks ago. It's an HP Pavilion zv6015, with an AMD 64 processor. So, now I get to tinker with a 64-bit OS (I installed Suse Linux 9.3 on it) and 64-bit apps.
It was a great deal, plus I got a ton of extra crap (including a nice printer) because CompUSA was having a pretty big Memorial Day sale. Not to mention the fact that this thing is actually more powerful than my desktop system. Come to think of it, I don't really forsee buying another desktop system, ever, if I can continue to find such powerful laptops at such good prices.
The only problem I've had so far is that I can't get the builtin wireless card to work with Linux. It seems that the 64 bit OS worked against me, since the ndiswrapper uses a 32 bit Windows driver. Or something. I came across a couple mentions of a commercial solution, but I haven't investigated further. No big deal though - the ethernet cable is long. :)
I founp this same lap top at a pawnshop, they want $600 dollars, but I would Like to know what can be upgraded. I called Hp Tech support, and they were kind of hard to understand, not to mention really slow on answering my Questions, but what I need to know is how much memory can you add, Hp says only 1 gb but comp USA says 2gb and so does other people I had read. They say I can't change the processor if I wanted to , but the Hard Drive, Yes. I also need to know If it Is Wireless and How Does that work.By the Way what did you Pay, and When did you Buy yours, Please Write Back or call me if you Want 915-313-2521. Thank You Stephen
