Thomas and Charles have been really cranking on the project in recent months, and I'm excited to see their project progress. As part of RDT we rely on JRuby's parser for heavy duty internal stuff, and this work only increases my interest in integrating more tightly (so we could allow users to choose their Ruby intepreter between standard installs or JRuby, for example).
Beyond their awesome work on trying to get IRB/RubyGems/Rails running, there's been some behind the scenes work on the parser and interpreter to help projects like RDT and experimental stuff like refactoring work by Swiss students (Sorry Mirko), or type inferrence and code resolution.
There's some exciting work going on with Java and Ruby hybrid work here...
