Is there anyone left who doesn't know that PETA is insane? I heard the then governor Bill Owens on a local radio station saying that, when we got hit with the double blizzard in December, PETA opposed dropping hay to the trapped cattle. Better that they starve to death slowly than risk being consumed by people, apparently.
On that same radio show several folks from sane organizations (e.g. The Humane Society) called in with some very unkind words for PETA and the people that worked for them. Many of the callers told tales similar to the one in the link - someone from PETA would show up, claiming to offer humanitarian support for a group of animals, but would then have the animals euthanized. One person from PETA called in as well. She was completely daffy.
It's a bizarre and scary psychology really. As far as I can tell, based on the stories I've heard and the woman from PETA who called in, some of these folks believe that it's better for an cat or dog to be killed than to be owned by the "evil humans". Or something. I don't know, and I don't want to know.
If you're interested in joining a *real* organization that helps animals, consider The Humane Society or the SPCA.
