On Friday night, I bit the bullet and plunked down for a Nikon D200 with an 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens, plus an SB800 Flash unit. I've had my eye on the D200 for awhile -- people rave about it. Then last night I went to Ritz camera and bought a monopod (doubles as walking stick or weapon! hehe), 2GB Compact Flash and a nice little LowePro camera bag. The camera should arrive tomorrow and I'm giddy with excitement! I've wanted my own SLR literally since I was about 10 years old and my uncle Max used to let me use his 35mm Pentax. I'm giving myself a few years to really get good, and with some luck and perseverance I should be able to derive at least part of my ongoing income from photography-related jobs, just like JDD. :-)
