I spent most of this weekend at this year's Tacticon. It's a gaming conference (as in board games, not computer games), though RPG's and CCG's were present as well. I finally got a chance to play three games I've been wanting to try for a while. Here's the rundown.
Successors: This is the older Avalon Hill version (the newer GMT version isn't out yet). This was a pretty good game. Basically, it's a four player version of Hannibal, but also has a reasonably good 3 player variant. I have the new version on order, so I'm looking forward to that. Thumbs up.
We the People: The grand-daddy of all CDG's, this game is not as well tuned as its younger cousins, but still fun and relatively short. Thumbs up.
Revolution: The Dutch Revolt: This game has some interesting mechanics, but a hyper dysfunctional map and excessive playing time made it rather unfun. Thumbs down.
In related news I demo'd a version of a board game that I created myself and the reactions were all positive. I'm in discussions with one of the game publishers, and hope to get it published by next year at some point. Wish me luck!
