“Brand management is so 1999.” It really is. This article resonated with me due to its similarity to our rule of thumb for marketing copy, which is that it should be about “them” not “us.”
(By way of example, the home page of our new site uses “you” around 20 times.)
Likewise, I wonder if it’s time for a new language for describing “branding.” Everyone thinks branding is about the company itself, but it’s really not. It’s about the customers.
“Forty” isn’t about us — it’s about a tribe of business owners and marketing directors who are looking for a new kind of agency.
This article is a great reminder that we need to stop thinking about ourselves and our “brand,” and start talking about our customer tribes.
