I’ve had an iPhone since pretty much the beginning. I’ve also had an iPhone Developer’s account since the beginning as well. For the past couple of years I’ve dabbled here and there never committing to make anything useful.
Most of the barrier has been Objective C. I’ve done my fair share of C-like languages, and learning a new one has never been anywhere close to top of my list. The other barrier is the idea. Until now, almost everything I’ve wanted on the mobile platform has already been written. The applications that haven’t existed have never actually drawn me to write something new; until now that is.
So today, I introduce Project Mockdown. It is an application to scratch an itch I’ve been having for the past few years. The problem is that I’m not really ready to introduce it. I believe there is a real need for this kind of application, and up to today, I haven’t seen anyone do it like I’m envisioning it. I just want a log of the first time I’ve sat down to actually write a mobile app.
With a web application, where do we usually start? I usually start with some soft of mockup; either HTML or hand drawn. Today, I tried something a bit different. I want to put a bunch of work into mocking the application up before I start throwing code around. Since this is itch that I’m trying to scratch, I actually want to put the time into learning what I’m doing, so I can share it someone else who might stumble through here.
