Stefan hits the nail on the head here, not for the first time. Binary MOMs are incredibly useful, and, once you've drunk a bit of the Web Kool-Aid, an incredible integration pain in the ass. I've played with, and really like ActiveMQ, but can I use it in a real-world, enterprisey project? Nope. Hurdle's too high. So. One part of me is hoping that, with just a bit more time, we can start building everything with XMPP. And another -- more pragmatic -- part of me is hoping that AMQP catches on enough to be useful, and makes it possible for me to start using XMPP, ActiveMQ, and whatever else does the job in a piecemeal fashion.
