Even though Joe Clark explains why format="flowed";, according to RFC2646, is a very useful, accessibility-enhancing feature, I don't like it.

Anyway, since I'm using Thunderbird, which is my first choice mail client, format="flowed"; is something, that just sucks, I think. Some of the postings of the thread Getting rid of colored quote bars... in the MozillaZine Forums describe the solution to get rid of format="flowed"; support in Thunderbird.

user_pref("mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support", true);
Update
// Disable display of format="flowed";
user_pref("mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support", true);
// Disable sending format="flowed"; messages.
user_pref("mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed", false);
