I was surprised to hear that 1 in 10 users actually BUY ITEMS advertised in spam messages. 1 in 3 users actually click on links in the spam. I figured the link clickers to be higher, but not THAT high. BUT, you can see why spam is still around. 1 in 10 nets some sort of sale. Given that spam costs basically nothing to send (as opposed to cold calling or regular mail), it's easy to see the ROI.
