I updated the hack on my Tivo unit this weekend to get the browser front-end from the WeetHet site. I had an "oh-no"^3 moment when I bumped the front panel ribbon connector loose. Everything I've heard is that bumping this cable loose causes the front-panel to be forever unresponsive. I lucked out and it's working now.
I have a DirecTv/Tivo HDVR2 unit so this drives what hacks I can apply. I haven't gone all the way to the Tivo OS4 hack yet, but the existing Sleeper disk is unbelievably easy to use. When I did it last time, I had to gather the Linux hacks together and perform most of the work over telnet. Those days are over with the Sleeper disk. I'll have to move to OS4 at some point, but I'll wait until more feedback is available on the hack. My next move is purchasing a quieter 200GB drive for the Tivo unit. I'm also thinking about making my Tivo unit my DNS server - it's always on and always connected and DNS isn't a huge processing burden in my network.
