A tough break may come at the wrong time for the A's. In the middle of a potential playoff-determining series with Boston, Hudson has been scrapped for tomorrow's game against Pedro Martinez and the Red Sox. Meanwhile, Mark Mulder had to fly back to see a physical therapist about his injured hip. Rumor has it that it is more serious that we were led to believe, and it could result in a seat on the DL.
Even though the A's exploded for 8 runs in their victory today (evey one of them needed with Lilly pitching), the A's will go down in flames if Mulder and Hudson miss any significant time. Their offense just isn't what it was a few years back, and they'll need every bit of good pitching available to win these low-scoring, close games down the stretch.
That said, the A's are now 2 games up in the wild card race (Boston), and 3 games behind division-leading Seattle. Let's hope Mulder & Hudson are with us down the stretch!
