When I first sat down with John and Phil in the spring of 2004 and we discussed a role for me with Adesso, I knew that the commute and Boston itself would be a formidable challenge for me (I had never worked in Boston for 22 years) and that I would have to and want to give a significant amount of my time to Adesso, thus cutting a bit into some of my evangelist duties, family life and community activities. However, I was excited about the Adesso product and the team and decided to give it a year and to give it my all. Though I have had a most rewarding experience at Adesso, one year later it is now time for me to transition from a full-time basis into a consulting role with Adesso, while returning to focusing on my core strengths and interests elsewhere. The commute has become 2 hours in and 2 hours out cutting into what can be done in a day. My family and I are also considering a move west and doing some totally different things.
I am very pleased that I have had the opportunity to contribute to Adesso and its future.I have learned a lot and have gotten to know some great people.I am pleased to have contributed to the .NET strategy (including managing the Whidbey, Devices, Yukon, Indigo, Magneto and WinFS TAP programs and Microsoft people we have been involved in) and Architecture for Adesso, and in the last 6 months driving the Adesso Enterprise Server and Sync Engine for Oracle 10g announced here as part of our “Tuscany“ release. It has been quite exciting and challenging to take on a huge project (10K lines of code, 300 stored procedures) a bit outside my normal zone and drive it to completion performing as Architect, Project Manager, Lead Developer (at times only one!) and managing contractors. I am extremely proud of and fully expect this product to deliver significant new revenue opportunities for Adesso. Adesso is a great product and has a bright future.
I am going to focus on my core strengths and interests, namely software process/best practice communication, .NET Architecture and evangelism, and once again follow that path.I am happy to continue to make my services available to Adesso. The Beantown.NET User Group will continue and Adesso has graciously agreed to host the group here in our office for at least the next couple of months.
I will be transitioning to a consulting role at Adesso starting Friday. I will have a continuing consulting relationship with Adesso for at least the next 2 months as well as seeking other opportunities. You may reach me here if you would like to explore opportunities with me.
